This officer has taken part in a large number of operational sorties. He has led his squadron on many successful bombing and low level attacks on enemy shipping and communications under intense anti-aircraft fire. Flight Lieutenant Susans has been engaged in air combats during which he has destroyed at least 2 enemy aircraft and damaged others. Although his aircraft has been hit by anti-aircraft fire on several occasions this officer's enthusiasm is undiminished and he has continued to display a fine fighting spirit and great devotion to duty.

On 4 March 1952, Wing Commander RONALD T. SUSANS distinguished himself by extraordinary achievement in aerial flight while leading a flight of four Meteor aircraft against enemy supplies and installations in the supply town of Ongjin in North Korea. Wing Commander SUSANS carried out the attack in the face of intense enemy fire, successfully launching his rockets and completely destroying two buildings containing supplies. He regrouped his flight and lead a strafing attack to extremely low altitude during which his aircraft was twice hit by enemy fire damaging the tail and causing his rudder to jam. Although he experienced great difficulty he was able to bring his aircraft safely back to base. As a result of this highly successful mission he contributed greatly to the destruction of enemy supplies and equipment destined for front line troops fighting United Nations ground forces in Korea. The outstanding leadership, skill and devotion to duty displayed by Wing Commander SUSANS on this occasion reflects the highest credit upon himself his comrades in arms of the United Nations and the Royal Australian Air Force.

Wing Commander Ronald T. Susans, 77th Interceptor-Fighter Squadron, 4th Fighter-Interceptor Group, distinguished himself by meritorious achievement while participating in aerial combat missions flying Meteor Mark Eight type aircraft against the enemy in North Korea from 24 December 1951 to 15 January 1952. Many times in the face of superior numbers of enemy high performance jet aircraft, his courage, aggressiveness and tactical skill contributed greatly to the successful completion of the assigned mission. Through Wing Commander Susans' valor, proficiency and devotion to duty on these occasions, he has brought great credit upon himself, his comrades in arms of the United Nations and the Royal Australian Air Force.
