Whilst serving with No. 3 Squadron, RAAF, in the Middle East this officer was shot down in combat and enemy bullets crippled his hand and injured his right arm. On his return to Australia he was posted to No. 75 Squadron and served with this unit as Senior Flight Commander at Milne Bay during which he completed 80 hours operational flying and was responsible for destroying many Japanese troops and damaging a large amount of equipment.
