Flying Officer WHITECROSS has completed 37 hours of operational flying with No. 4 A/C Squadron all of which represent actual time over the target. By personally exposing himself to enemy fire, he frequently forced a disclosure of their positions, and he then remained over these positions under continuous fire directing our own artillery until the enemy positions were destroyed.

By flying at extremely low levels on reconnaissance, he was able to obtain accurate information regarding the disposition of enemy forces. This information was of the utmost value to the Army units with which he was co-operating. His achievements were made possible only by his fearless determination and disregard of his own safety.

Unit: No. 4 Squadron, RAAF

Gazetted: The London Gazette, 10 March 1944
