Squadron Leader SAVAGE was posted to No. 31 Squadron on the 24th August, 1942, and since that date has rendered outstanding service as a flight commander, and second in command of the squadron.

In the many strikes and sorties in which he has taken part, his aggressiveness and complete disregard of personal safety has always been a splendid example to his flight. On 31st January, 1943, he led a flight of six Beaufigters in a successful attack on Penfoei aerodrome, which resulted in one ammunition dump being blown up, a fuel store set on fire, 3 aircraft destroyed and five damaged.

On 15th March he led a flight of 4 Beaufighters in a strafing attack on 3 enemy transports near Dobo. In the face of intense anti-aircraft fire, this attack was made at masthead height and heavy fire was poured into the troop crowded docks.

On 6th May he again led a flight of six Beaufighters in a successful search for enemy float planes in the Aroe Islands resulting in the complete destruction of the 10 enemy float plane fighters which were discovered.

Squadron Leader SAVAGE has at all times displayed courage, determination and leadership of the highest order.
