Flight Lieutenant Robertson was in command of three to five Hudson aircraft which carried out reconnaissances so well and thoroughly that no enemy sea forces which were constantly operating in the area passed unnoticed. In August 1942 he sighted and attacked a convoy consisting of three enemy cruisers, two transports, two tankers and two mine layers. In the face of heavy fire and with supporting cover he persisted with the attack. He repeatedly bombed and strafed enemy positions during the attempted Japanese invasion.
