Since being posted to No. 76 I/F Squadron on the 23rd June, 1942, Flight Lieutenant LOUDON has completed 215 hours of operational flying, consisting of 130 sorties including 26 strikes.
For several months he has, with exceptional courage and aggressiveness, led his squadron, and on many occasions the wing, in strikes and fighter sweeps over 140 miles of water to New Britain.
On the 4th December, 1943, he led a formation of four Kittyhawks which in co-operation with two Beaufighters was successful in setting fire to and completely destroying an enemy vessel of 200 tons at Cape Hoskins.
Flight Lieutenant LOUDON has at all times displayed outstanding courage, skill and aggressiveness in all his attacks against the enemy, and his determined leadership has been largely responsible for maintaining the morale of the squadron at a high level.
Unit: No. 76 Squadron, RAAF
On the 9th March, 1944, Squadron Leader LOUDON brought the first squadron on to the Momote Strip after the landing on Los Negros Island.
For a period of five weeks of continuous operations, under crude and difficult living and working conditions, his full squadron was maintained by an advance flight of 100 personnel, the main party not having arrived.
Squadron Leader LOUDON's judgement, energy and example were instrumental in maintaining a high standard of serviceability and general operational efficiency in No. 76 I/F Squadron during the period.
