Silver Star (US)

For gallantry in action near Buna, New Guinea, during the period December 14-18, 1942. While performing observation missions for the artillery of United States Army forces in the Buna area during this period, Flying Officer Ifould flew repeatedly at low altitudes to invite anti-aircraft fire which would reveal the location of enemy weapons. While exposed to such hostile fire, he directed our artillery fire successfully on the enemy weapons.
