This officer has been Chief Flying Instructor of this unit since its formation on the 15th September, 1940.

He has shown marked ability in this appointment, and by his keenness and enthusiasm for his work, has set and maintained a high standard of efficiency among both instructors and trainees. His determination and driving force were largely responsible for the school being able to maintain its allotted output of trainees through the extremely arduous first four to five months after formation when quite abnormal difficulties had to be overcome.

During this period Squadron Leader Cox maintained the morale of tired and flagging instructors and showed judgment, tact and leadership.

Unit: No. 8 Elementary Flying Training School, RAAF
