Flying Officer CARTER was posted to No. 4 Tac/R. Squadron on the 1st August, 1943, and since that date has completed 120 hours of operational flying, consisting of 45 operational sorties.

Whilst on tactical reconnaissance missions he has repeatedly exposed himself to enemy fire in order to ascertain its position so that the gun positions could be destroyed.

Flying Officer CARTER's courage, determination and devotion to duty have been outstanding.
