Flight Sergeant McMAHON was posted to No. 100 Squadron on the 6th February, 1943, and has served as a wireless air gunner in active operations against the enemy for six months. He has completed 287 hours of operational flying, including 47 sorties and six strikes, most of these sorties being carried out within range of important Japanese fighter bases.
On 20th July, 1943, when on reconnaissance, the Beaufort aircraft in which he was turret gunner was attacked by four enemy fighters. With great skill and calmness, he succeeded in forcing the enemy aircraft to break off the attack and was officially credited with the damaging of one enemy aircraft and the probable destruction of another.
